History

The Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA) was founded in 1983 by a small group of dedicated physicians with a desire to establish a regional association for orthopaedic surgeons living in the southern states of the United States. SOA strives to serve its members and fulfill its mission of developing and fostering the art and science of medicine in the specialty of orthopaedic surgery. Foremost in this effort are the flagship Annual Meeting and the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances.

Purpose

The purpose of SOA is to develop and foster scientific medicine in the specialty of orthopaedic surgery. The association operates exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes.

Membership

Active members reside in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
